The Houston Texans Are Better Than We All Thought They Would Be
I’d like to officially renounce my preseason prediction that the Houston Texans would go winless in the NFL this season.
I know it’s too late considering they won their opening game of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but my opinion on this team has officially changed. They aren’t as bad as I thought.
Sure, they don’t have any flashy, superstar names, but the team is a solid group of veterans that will do everything they can to win each week. A lot of the players are guys who some could say have been underrated and underappreciated in their career. Players like Philip Lindsay and Chris Conley.
The Over/Under for the Texans win total is still set at 4 at WynnBET, but now the over is slightly favored at -115 odds. Despite my vocal distaste for this team before the season started, now that we’ve seen them for two games, I like the over on that total.
The Texans rank 16th in the NFL in yards per play at 5.6, and 21st in opponent yards per play at 6.0. Those aren’t terrible numbers. They certainly aren’t great, but much better than I expected especially considering they played a very good Cleveland Browns team in Week 2.
With that being said, they aren’t going to win the AFC South (+2500) or make the playoffs, but they could be a solid bet to make throughout the season.
Tyrod Taylor is out with an injury for their upcoming Thursday night game against the Panthers, so rookie Davis Mills will get his first start in the NFL. That’s not good news as Taylor was looking fantastic in the first game and a half.
The jury is still out on Mills, and I wouldn’t be shocked if the former Stanford quarterback turns out to be a pleasant surprise. The Texans are now 8-point home underdogs on Thursday.
If good teams win but great teams cover, what does that make the Texans that are now 2-0 against the spread?
