Nobody has been as vocally anti-Islanders as me over the past few years, but when I bet on teams I try not to let my heart and bias effect my decisions.

With that being said, I'm officially done betting on the New York Islanders after they couldn't even beat the pitiful Detroit Red Wings last night.

As a result of their recent woes, the Islanders' Stanley Cup odds at WynnBET dropped from +2000, where they opened at the beginning of the season, to +7500 (bet $100 to profit $7,500). Even at that price, there's absolutely no value betting this franchise to win a championship just one year removed from playing in a semi-final series.

What Went Wrong with the New York Islanders?

The Islanders got off to a disappointing start to their season, but they had a completely valid reason. Due to a delay in their new UBS Arena being ready to host their games, the Islanders had to begin their season on a 13-game road trip.

At the conclusion of their road trip, things got even worse when a significant amount of their players were ruled out due to a COVID-19 outbreak. The NHL finally postponed all of their games for a week to allow them to get healthy.

They returned to play on December 2nd, with their full team healthy, but the losses kept piling up. They've gone 2-5 since then, with losses to lowly teams like the Red Wings (twice), Blackhawks, and Sharks.

Not only is their record ugly, but so are their statistics. They rank 29th in the NHL in CORSI%, 24th in high danger scoring percentage, and 28th in shooting percentage. They're also 31st in the NHL in goals per 60 minutes, notching a measly 2.1. Only the Coyotes are worse in that stat.

The Islanders are done. Finished. Stick a fork in their season, it's over. I won't be betting on them the rest of the way out, and you shouldn't either.

If you're looking for the next time to fade them, however, they face the Boston Bruins on Thursday night.
