This Trend Is a Bad Sign for Falcons Bettors Ahead of Thursday Night Football vs. Patriots
My mood for the week is directly correlated with how the Falcons performed on Sunday, so you could say I'm not exactly the happiest person at BetSided right now.
My week is about to get even worse, as the Falcons are set to take on the New England Patriots on Thursday Night Football. WynnBET currently has the Patriots set as 6.5-point favorites.
They couldn't just hide this game on Sunday afternoon, could they? It's Atlanta's only prime time game of the season, and we're going to get bombarded with highlights of the "28-3" Super Bowl all night.
In fact, I'm setting the over/under at five minutes for how long it will take the broadcast to mention Super Bowl 51. For us Falcons fans who desperately need to see them beat the Patriots for some sort of cathartic release, don't expect it to happen this year. In fact, I would bet the complete opposite.
History would support that notion, as the Falcons are 0-6 straight up and against the spread in their last six meetings with the Patriots. They haven't won or covered the spread against the Patriots since November 8th, 1998.
Falcons vs. Patriots History Since Their Last Win
- Nov. 4th 2001: Patriots 24 Falcons 10
- Oct. 9th 2005: Patriots 31 Falcons 28
- Sept. 27th 2009: Falcons 10 Patriots 26
- Sept. 29th, 2013: Patriots 30 Falcons 23
- Feb. 5th, 2017 (SB 51): Patriots 34 Falcons 28
- Oct. 22nd, 2017: Falcons 7 Patriots 23
I expect more of the same from this Falcons team on Thursday night. After getting embarrassed 43-3 in Week 10 against the Cowboys, it's too short of a week for the Falcons to regroup enough to face their demons.
Any Falcons fan that sits down to watch this game is a special kind of masochist.
