T.J. Watt Should Be Defensive Player of Year Favorite Over Myles Garrett

The football community has moved past its obsession with making the case for overly-aggressive cornerback Trevon Diggs to win Defensive Player of the Year and now has two solid options.

Myles Garrett is the favorite right now, with his odds at +240 at WynnBET. Garrett might end up being the DPOY and it wouldn’t be without merit. Garrett already has 12.0 sacks this season to go along with 33 combined tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 23 quarterback hits.

He’s been great, but T.J. Watt, who’s second on the odds list, is the one that needs to be the DPOY.

Watt has missed two games, but is still keeping pace with Garrett and contributing to one of the league’s best defenses. Watt has 11.5 sacks, 34 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 18 quarterback hits.

If Watt can do all of this while missing games, imagine what his stat line will be at the end of the season -- barring injury.

Watt has turned up the level of intensity over his last three games, recording more than one sack in each. The Steelers have turned Watt loose and at this rate he is going to walk away with either Defensive Player of the Year or the sack title.

WynnBET has Watt’s odds at +275, which might be the last time he will have value. This level of play warrants a shortening of odds. If it continues, expect Watt to walk away with hardware this year.
