Top MLB Picks and Predictions Today (Back Two UNDERs, Yankees in Subway Series)
Happy Subway Series Day!
The New York Yankees and New York Mets lead their respective divisions, and they will face off on Tuesday at Citi Field in one of the games on the loaded slate in Major League Baseball.
The BetSided team of Peter Dewey, Reed Wallach and Joe Summers has you covered with a few picks to make in tonight's action, with odds via WynnBET:
Houston Astros vs. Oakland Athletics Odds, Prediction and Pick
- Run Line: Astros -1.5 (+100) | A’s +1.5 (-120)
- Moneyline: Astros -160 | A’s +150
- Total: 7 (Over -110/Under -110)
I'm going to side with the under in this matchup. Sure, seven runs is a low mark to clear, but I like the matchup for both Luis Garcia and Frankie Montas to keep the runs down on Tuesday night.
Let's start with Garcia, who has been in excellent form over the past several weeks. Over his last six starts, Garica has a 3.78 ERA (3.48 FIP) and has pitched at least five innings in each outing. Against one of the worst offenses in the league in Oakland, Garcia should continue to pitch to his solid numbers.
Meanwhile, Montas is one of the lone bright spots in any otherwise dismal season for the A's. He has a 3.16 ERA this season and was able to shutdown the vaunted Houston offense earlier this season, pitching seven innings of two-run baseball.
I can't trust the Oakland offense to put up many runs, but Montas is in line for a quality start against a team he has had success against in the past.

New York Yankees vs. New York Mets Odds, Prediction and Pick
- Run Line: Yankees -1.5 (+140) | Mets +1.5 (-170)
- Moneyline: Yankees -110 | Mets +100
- Total: 8 (Over -115/Under -105)
The New York Yankees and New York Mets will reignite their rivalry on Tuesday with another edition of the Subway Series taking place at Citi Field
Both of these teams have been great in the 2022 season, but I do think the Yankees actually have a bit of an edge in this matchup.
While Taijuan Walker has been better than Jordan Montgomery on the mound this season, the Mets are a far worse team against left-handed pitching in 2022.
The Mets rank 22nd in OPS and 23rd in slugging percentage against lefties this season, while the Yankees are No. 3 in MLB in both of those categories against right-handed pitching.
There are concerns with the Yankees bullpen because of injuries, but I think Montgomery can keep the Mets’ bats silent on Tuesday night.

San Diego Padres vs. Detroit Tigers Odds, Prediction and Pick
- Run Line: Padres -1.5 (-110) | Tigers +1.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Padres -170 | Tigers +155
- Total: 8 (Over -110/Under -110)
The Padres know they can't afford to lose two straight to the lowly Tigers, so we should get Mike Clevinger's best outing today. San Diego has lost each of his last three starts as he's compiled a 4.67 ERA this month, but I anticipate a strong performance in this one.
Despite yesterday's barrage, make no mistake that the Tigers' lineup is pathetic. Detroit has the worst OPS in MLB against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks, so don't get too excited about a broken clock being right yesterday.
Clevinger is due for a nice game as well, with a 3.61 expected ERA. At the least, I have more confidence in him than Garrett Hill, who has a 5.30 expected ERA thus far.
With that being said, I think it's a good day to fade both offenses. Slight wind coming in from center field should mitigate ball flight, and the under has been a strong bet in this spot recently. It's hit in three of Clevinger's last four starts and all three of Hill's.
After 18 runs were scored yesterday, I expect a step back from each club. Give me the under as Clevinger and Hill battle it out in a competitive contest.
