Top MLB Picks and Predictions Today (Yankees, Astros Set to Dominate, Plus One Total for Wednesday)
There's nothing like a loaded afternoon slate in Major League Baseball on a Wednesday, and the BetSided team is here to provide you with some of their top picks for the action on May 11.
Reed Wallach, Donnavan Smoot and Matt De Saro have previewed several games for today's slate, and here are some of their top picks with all odds via WynnBET:
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Seattle Mariners Prediction and Pick
Logan Gilbert has been fantastic to start the season, making an early case for AL Cy Young (+2000 at WynnBET), posting an MLB best 1.36 ERA in 6 starts. While the Phillies lineup is top 5 in batting average, they will struggle with Gilbert's ability to generate soft contact, allowing less than 7 hits per 9 innings.
The crux to this handicap comes on the other side, though, with the Mariners struggles against left handed pitching, hitting .207 vs. southpaws this season, the 28th best mark in baseball. They will be matched up against Bailey Falter on Wednesday, who is in a good spot to improve on his slow start to 2022.
He has been unable to punch out batters, less than four K/9 thus far, but is also on the wrong side of some batted ball variance, allowing two home runs in 7.1 innings, but in his first start of the season after coming out of the pen in four appearances this season, he is set up for success given the fact that Seattle can't hit lefties.
I'm counting on a lower scoring matchup given the pitching matchup on Wednesday.

Houston Astros vs. Minnesota Twins Prediction and Pick
The Astros are finally looking like the AL contender we all thought they would be at the start of the season. Houston’s bats haven’t been the star of the show, though. The Astros’ wins are coming from their pitching staff. In the month of May, the Astros have the third-best team ERA in baseball (2.85).
Houston is also 8-3 against the run line in the last 11 games, with three consecutive 3-2 wins over the Tigers breaking up the streak. It’s not just that the Astros are winning, but the fact they’ve been dominant in the process.
Minnesota has been good in the last 10 games as well, going 7-3 SU. However, the Twins just got beat 5-0 and haven’t had the best offense in the last five games. This is a chance for the Astros to flex their rotation and get another win.
Lean: Astros -1.5 (+135) -- Donnavan Smoot

Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Prediction and Pick
A big reason for the Blue Jays' recent cold streak has been a lack of quality pitching. They are giving up a ton of runs in their losses, and barely winning when they are victorious. Toronto entered this series on a 3-10 run ATS thanks to those pitching issues.
Jose Berrios was a big part of that problem in his last start against the Guardians last week. He gave up six earned runs in 4 ⅔ innings. Perhaps the most glaring issue however was his strikeout to walk ratio of 0:1. He allowed 22 balls to be put into play in 23 at-bats resulting in eight hits.
Conversely, Jamieson Taillon has been a big reason why the Yankees are faring so well lately. Taillon hasn’t given up more than two earned runs in a game all year and enters Wednesday afternoon with a 2.84 ERA and 1.14 WHIP. He pitched very well in his last game against the Blue Jays with one run in six innings with four strikeouts and zero walks.
This feels like a bigger pitching mismatch than the numbers suggest and I’m going to take a shot on the Yankees to win big.
Pick: Yankees -1.5 (+175) -- Matt De Saro
