Remember when the Miami Dolphins wanted to trade for Deshaun Watson?

That could continue to be a distant memory as Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa helped his team win four consecutive games (he's played in three of them) to move to 5-7 on the season.

The Dolphins were off to a brutal 1-7 start, but Tagovailoa has come around in the last three weeks, posting a passer rating of 104.0 or higher in each of his last three games. He's also second in the NFL in completion percentage.

Over his last three games Tagovailoa has compiled 661 passing yards, three touchdowns and just one interception. He came in relief for Jacoby Brissett in one of those games and helped Miami upset the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday Night Football.

Has Tua made things a bit awkward for the Dolphins with his play? Maybe. However, he has given them relief now that they know there may be a future with him under center; rather than risking everything for Watson amidst his legal issues.

The No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Tagovailoa could still have three more seasons in Miami (if the team picks up his fifth-year option), and he's shown that as long as he's healthy (a big if) he can be a competent quarterback at this level.

Miami is on the outside looking in at the playoff picture, but one can wonder if the Dolphins would have a real shot had Tua not broken his ribs in Week 2 of the season.

Tua has done the Dolphins a favor, as they shouldn't feel as much pressure to trade for a quarterback now, and if they do, he's actually improved his value in the trade market with this recent stretch of play.

Miami is a 3-point favorite against the New York Giants in Week 13 at WynnBET.
