Let's take a look and see where the sharps and public differ on the matchups, as well as which teams the sportsbooks need over the course of the day.
TicketSmarter Birmingham Bowl - No. 20 Houston (-1.5) vs. Auburn - TOTAL: 49
We've seen a major move towards the Houston side just this morning. In the last hour before kickoff, Houston has gone from a 1.5-point underdog at WynnBET to a 1.5-point favorite; despite 56% of the spread bets on Auburn and 54.9% of the money on the Tigers.
Meanwhile, the total has taken a nose dive as well. After opening at 51.5, it now sits at 49. 74.7% of the total bets were on the OVER, but just 54.7% of the money was in agreement. With the recent line move down 2.5 points, it's very much in play that sharps are pouring in on the under.
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl - Air Force vs. Louisville (-1) | TOTAL: 54.5
The spread has seen noticeable movement in this mid-afternoon matchup from Dallas, Texas today. After the Falcons opened up at WynnBET as 1-point favorites, the line has flip-flopped to Louisville going from 1-point underdogs to the new team on top at -1. 59.6% of the betting tickets came in on Louisville, but Air Force has 63.6% of the money.
BetSided's Reed Wallach pointed out in his early game preview that Service Academies are 37-15 vs. the spread since 1980 in bowl games; along with the Falcons going 8-4 ATS this year.
Meanwhile, the total has stayed put at 54.5 after initially opening up at 55.5. 80.3% of the betting tickets are on the OVER, but just 46.5% of the money is in agreement, going in favor of the UNDER instead.
AutoZone Liberty Bowl - Mississippi State (-10) vs. Texas Tech | TOTAL: 58.5
The oddsmakers opened up the Bulldogs as 9-point favorites in the Liberty Bowl this evening, but the line has since moved to double digits, with Mississippi State now up to -10. Both the tickets and handle are on the Bulldogs, with 61.9% of the bets going for the SEC squad, and 52% of the money also backing Mike Leach against his former team.
For anyone looking to back a big dog today, you can get Texas Tech at WynnBET at +290 odds, meaning a $100 bet would profit $290.
The total has also come down from 60 to 58.5, with a major discrepancy in splits between the tickets and money. 76.2% of the bets are on the OVER, but 64.5% of the money is on the UNDER.
San Diego County Credit Union Holiday Bowl - UCLA vs. No. 18 NC State | TOTAL: 60.5
Yesterday on BetSided's podcast, "Bet & Breakfast," Wallach gave out No. 18 NC State -130 as his best bet for the day.
Turns out that the sharps agree, and have moved the line up slightly to -135 on the moneyline.
Meanwhile, the spread still stands at NC State -2 over UCLA, and both bettors and sharps are on the same side here. 64.2% of the tickets are backing the Wolfpack, along with 85.7% of the money as two-point favorites.
Also, for the first time today, the OVER has been on the move, going from 60 to 60.5 at WynnBET. While 70.3% of the bets back yet another over, it's still the UNDER at 62.4% receiving the majority of the money.
Guaranteed Rate Bowl - West Virginia vs. Minnesota (-5) | TOTAL: 44.5
The final game of the day matches up the Big Ten and Big 12 with the Gophers as a 5-point favorite after opening at -5.5.
The bets and money are almost in unison for this game as of late morning, with 57.2% of the tickets and 58.4% of the money on the Gophers to cover as favorites.
The total has hovered anywhere between 44.5 and 45, currently sitting on the former. Bettors and sharps are also in lock-step with this play, as 84.4% of the betting tickets are on the over, and 85.1% of the money is in the same boat.
