Golf major tournaments are the time to fire off on several bets.

One of the best and most exciting bets to place, is on who will leader after the first round. Since only the first round is included, you can get longer odds on the top guys, since one round is a little bit more unpredictable.

Before diving into the odds, you should take a look at the weather for the opening round. As of writing this article, those who tee off in the morning will have a slight advantage on the afternoon group. Here are the tee-times for the entire field.

U.S. Open First Round Leader Best Bet

Joaquin Niemann +4000

Joaquin Niemann has a lot going for him this week, and I like him quite a bit to be the first round leader at 40/1.

First of all, let's look at his numbers. He ranks 11th in total strokes gained on Tour, including 13th in strokes gained: off-the-tee, and 8th in strokes gained: tee-to-green. He's shown flashes of fantastic play in the first two majors this season, and he tees off at 8:02am EST on Thursday, so he'll have the weather advantage on the afternoon groups.

Finally, he ranks second on Tour in Round 1 scoring average, behind only Cameron Smith. His average first round score is 67.87 so far this season, so if he carries that into this week, his 40/1 odds are looking pretty damn good.
