For football fans and bettors alike, everyone is playing the waiting game ahead of Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles.

While some sportsbooks opened up betting lines with the L.A. Rams as 3.5-point favorites over the Cincinnati Bengals, the oddsmakers at WynnBET decided to open the Rams as a 4-point favorite instead.

“We had a conversation on the line during the finish of the NFC Championship through our own internal channels," WynnBET trader Jon Manica exclusively told BetSided the Monday after the lines opened.

"[Senior Trading Manager] Motoi Pearson and [Senior Trading Manager] Alan Berg discussed the game previously, and landed on the current number of -4.  Other places opened -3.5."

So far, Manica and the WynnBET traders have gotten the number right, as the spread has stayed stagnant over the past week and half. A few books had gotten enough action to move the number up to Rams -4.5, but once it arrived there, it was quickly bet back down to -4.

"Despite some other sportsbooks using slightly different numbers, WynnBET felt good about their openers, as indicated moreso in the total," Manica continued.

"However, we stuck with the -4 and saw that the total of 50 or 50.5 was being used. We thought that was slightly high. So, we hung 49.5 and it is now currently 49 (now down to 48.5)."

How are the Sharps Betting the Super Bowl Compared to the Public?

WynnBET's latest insights ahead of the game indicate slightly more action on the side of the Rams. 56.3% of the overall spread betting tickets are on the side of L.A. The actual handle also backs the Rams, taking in 62.8% of the money.

As for the total, WynnBET has seen their number of 49.5 move down a full point, but that's largely due to the professionals taking the under. 63% of the money is on the under, whereas 59.3% of the tickets are backing the over.

For those wanting to take the under, you may want to consider waiting until closer to kickoff when more casual bettors have likely jumped on board with the over. The Super Bowl is one of the few times during the sports betting calendar that the sharp money does not always overwhelm the sportsbooks compared to the public.

As for action on Cincinnati, Manica told BetSided that they have gotten some early bets on the Bengals, just not enough to make a move at this point.

"The early action has come in on Cincinnati to win outright as underdogs, but not enough to move the spread," said Manica.

"The wagers came in on the Bengals money line after opening, but nothing that would facilitate moving off the -4 or adjusting the current money line.”
