Myles Gaskin is expected to lead a committee between himself, Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed this season for the Miami Dolphins, but oddsmakers are extra high on Gaskin in Week 1.

The Dolphins face the New England Patriots in Week 1, and Gaskin is +1000 on WynnBET (third) to lead the NFL in rushing and receiving yards. Only Christian McCaffrey and Dalvin Cook are ahead of Gaskin on the odds list.

Look, Gaskin is a solid player, but there has to be something that Vegas knows that we don’t to have him this high in this prop, right?

While the Patriots were 26th in the NFL against the run last season, that was without top linebacker Dont’a Hightower who sat out the 2020 season due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic.

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe explained that Gaskin is expected to be the team’s lead back because of his ability to play all three downs, but is he that far ahead of Brown and Ahmed that he’s going to potentially lead the NFL in yardage in Week 1?

The Dolphins will be without starting left tackle Austin Jackson, but that hasn’t hurt Gaskin’s outlook in this prop. Maybe the former seventh-round pick’s receiving prowess (he had 41 catches for 388 yards in 10 games last season) will propel him in Week 1, but Gaskin is hard to trust until we see how Brian Flores truly rotates his backs this season.

Last year, Jordan Howard and Matt Breida were expected to lead the Dolphins backfield, but Gaskin and Ahmed ended up as the top tandem by the end of the year.

Vegas may trust that Gaskin is in line for a big role, but I’ll believe it when I see it from Flores in Week 1. At +1000 odds, I’d stay away from Gaskin simply because there are more proven backs that will have a guaranteed path to touches in the same area (Alvin Kamara +1000, Antonio Gibson +1200, Derrick Henry +1800, Joe Mixon +2000) that I’d trust more than Gaskin.
