Now that we’re four weeks into the NFL season, I hope that you’re beginning to learn a little about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to betting on professional football.

Last week, I wrote about how the Buccaneers and vulnerable, how home field advantage might be dead, and how sometimes the obvious bet is the right bet to make.

Let’s take a look at what we learned from Week 4 action.

Sometimes Bad Teams Win

Two of the most public bets in Week 4 of the NFL was the Titans -6.5 against the Jets and the Saints -7.5 against the Giants. Both teams went on to lose the game outright in overtime.

I saw all over Twitter last week about how the Titans and Saints were “auto-bets” because of how bad the Giants and Jets were. If only sports betting was that easy.

Not only did the Giants and Jets win, but the Jaguars also covered the spread against the Bengals on Thursday night which means if you faded the three worst teams in the NFL last week, you would have gone 0-3 with that strategy.

The Arizona Cardinals are For Real

The Cardinals had their toughest test of the season when they faced the Rams on Sunday, and they passed with flying colors. Arizona dominated the Rams throughout the entire game, and won 37-20 as 4-point underdogs. The Cardinals are now the final undefeated team left in the NFL.

Not only that, but Kyler Murray has established himself as the co-favorite to win NFL MVP alongside Justin Herbert.

That’s a big change from the team that many people expected would finish in last place in the NFC West before the season began.

Tyrod Taylor was More Important Than we Thought

Everyone thought the Texans would be the worst team in the NFL this season, but they quickly changed people’s tune in Week 1 when they dominated the Jaguars, beating them 37-21. In Week 2, they were going punch-for-punch with the Browns before Tyrod Taylor got hurt before halftime.

Since Davis Mills took over under center, the Texans have scored a combined 16 points in the last 10 quarters of football. That’s…..not very good.

All of a sudden, the Texans are back to looking as bad as we thought they’d be this season. After getting shutout 40-0 by the Bills in Week 4, the Texans only hope to find any level of success this season is for Taylor to get back in the lineup ASAP.
