Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams is in a contract year, and so far the fifth-year receiver is looking to get PAID.

Williams has been off to the best start of his career, tallying 15 catches for 173 yards and two scores over the Chargers’ first two games.

It’s no secret that Williams has gotten off to a hot start, as he’s seen the most usage of any point in his career. Through two games, Williams has amassed 22 targets, which leads the team. Keenan Allen is second with 21 targets.

Williams averaged just 3.2 receptions per game last season, and his career high in catches for a season is 49 in the 2019 season. He’s already made 15 catches in two games this year, and it he can just average a few more than the 3.2 catches from the 2020 campaign, he’s likely to have a career year.

Justin Herbert showed just how good he can be in his rookie season, and it appears he and Williams have a solid rapport to start this season. It’s great news for Chargers fans, as Williams, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has been underwhelming so far in his career.

Williams has just one 1,000-yard season and one year with double-digit touchdowns, but he could set career-highs in both areas in the NFL’s 17-game season in 2021.

The Chargers certainly would love for Williams to prove he’s worth a long-term investment by the organization, and the deep threat has shown so far that with the volume, he can be a lethal target on the outside.

All that’s left for Williams is for him to stay healthy. The Clemson University product has only played every game in a season once in his career (2018) and it severely limited his ceiling as a player.

Williams is in a new role this season with Brandon Staley’s staff in Los Angeles, and he’s being used much more than just as a deep threat in the Chargers’ offense

The new role has allowed for Williams to show what he can do in open space and when he touches the ball more than a few times a game.

The Chargers are just 1-1, but they will have a chance to pull off a major upset against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 at Arrowhead Stadium. WynnBET has Los Angeles as a 6.5-point underdog, but Kansas City is just 1-11-1 against the spread in its last 13 games.
