When Is Ja Morant Coming Back for Grizzlies?
By Peter Dewey
The Memphis Grizzlies are in trouble in the second round of the NBA playoffs. They squandered a fourth-quarter lead in Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors to fall behind 3-1 in the series.
The Grizzlies were without star point guard Ja Morant on Monday night due to a knee injury, but Tyus Jones did fill in admirably, scoring 19 points while adding six rebounds and five assists in a starting role.
Morant injured his knee in Game 3, and the Grizzlies thought it was on this play when Warriors guard Jordan Poole appeared to inadvertently grab Morant’s knee.
The team has not released the specifics on Morant’s injury, but he was doubtful for Game 4 and is now out for Wednesday’s Game 5.
Ja Morant Latest Injury Update
The Grizzlies confirmed on Tuesday late afternoon that Morant is now expected to miss the remainder of the postseason with a bone bruise.
It's important to clarify that he is listed as "doubtful" for the remainder of the postseason, and not "out," but it would be a stunner to see the league's Most Improved Player for 2022 back on the court the rest of the playoffs.
Morant has dealt with knee issues multiple times this season, and the Grizzlies have actually played well without him, compiling a 20-5 record in the regular season in the games Morant missed.
Ja Morant Injury History
Morant was injured early in the 2021-22 season, missing 12 games from Nov. 28 through Dec. 19 with a knee injury. He returned and played fantastic, proving to be the league’s Most Improved Player.
However, Morant missed 10 of the Grizzlies’ final 11 regular season games with another knee ailment, and may not have been 100 percent entering the playoffs.
The latest injury issue in his knee is certainly concerning for the team going forward this postseason and beyond.
