The Dallas Mavericks enter the 2022 NBA postseason looking to secure their second NBA Championship.

Centered around superstar guard Luka Doncic, the Mavericks have turned themselves into a steal NBA Finals contender with a strong defense and deep rotation of guards like Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwiddie.

When is the last time the Mavericks won the NBA Finals? Let's take a look back before taking a peek at their first round opponent and prospects of bringing home another title.

When Was the Last Time the Mavericks Won the NBA Finals?

The Mavericks won their lone NBA Championship in 2011, knocking off the Miami Heat in six games.

Dallas had Dirk Nowitzki then, but has a future Hall of Famer in Doncic on hand this time around. The Mavericks have built up some depth with their midseason trade of Kristaps Porzingis, but do have a difficult path, which we will get into below.

Mavericks Odds to Win the Western Conference, NBA Championship

The Mavericks are the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference, set to face the Utah Jazz in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs. Currently, the Mavs are +1200 to win the West and +2500 to win the NBA title over at WynnBET Sportsbook.

It will not be the easiest path for the Mavs, who have a second round matchup looming against the Phoenix Suns, but Dallas may be in trouble in their first round matchup against Utah with Doncic battling a strained calf. The star guard suffered the injury on the final game of the regular season and there is no timetable for his return.

While Dallas has upside as a Western Conference title threat, the team is going to need to scrap together a few wins before Doncic can return. With him not 100%, Dallas is capped as an early postseason exit.
