When Was the Last Time the Grizzlies Won the NBA Finals?
By Joe Summers
The upstart Memphis Grizzlies were the darlings of the NBA's regular season. They finished with a league-best 52-29-1 against the spread record and were full of highlights all year long.
Now, they'll hope to build off a wildly successful campaign as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the playoffs.
Ja Morant has made the leap to superstar, Jaren Jackson Jr. was one of the best defenders in the league, and role players like Desmond Bane and Dillon Brooks give the Grizzlies a deep roster that can hang with anyone.
Reed Wallach has you covered with a preview on the series, but let's check out when Memphis last won the NBA Finals.
When Was the Last Time the Memphis Grizzlies Won the NBA Finals?
Well, they never have. The Grizzlies have made the postseason in 11 of their 27 seasons, but the farthest they've gone is the Western Conference Finals in 2013. The Spurs beat them in that series, and aside from two Western Conference Semi-Final appearances in 2011 and 2015, Memphis has never advanced past the first round.
This certainly represents the franchise's best chance yet at a deep playoff run, and Ja Morant and company are well-positioned to take advantage of the opportunity.
Grizzlies Odds to Win the NBA Championship, Western Conference
WynnBET Sportsbook currently has the Grizzlies listed at +500 to win the Western Conference and +1400 to win the NBA Title.
A couple of months ago, I wrote that Memphis was a great value to win the NBA Finals and they've done nothing since to make me think otherwise.
They finished the season with the fifth-best net rating in the NBA (5.3) with a top-six offense and defense. Morant will be a terror for any opponent and they've got the defensive chops to thwart opposing offenses.
If they make it past the Timberwolves, they'll face the winner of the Warriors vs Nuggets. If the regular season is any indication, Memphis will be ready to capitalize on the best chance in franchise history to win it all.
