Who are the Sharps, Public Backing in the Rose Bowl & Sugar Bowl?
By Ben Heisler
With a full slate of big-time New Years Day college football bowl games on tap, WynnBET has passed along their latest up-to-date splits for how the betting tickets and money are divided for the spreads, moneylines and totals in today's matchups.
Let's take a look at how both of today's late college bowl games break down, with the latest odds courtesy of WynnBET Sportsbook:
The Rose Bowl Game: Utah vs. Ohio State
Spread:
- Utah +4 (-110)
- Ohio State -4 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Utah +150
- Ohio State -180
Total:
- 63.5 (Over -110 | Under -110)
Even before Ohio State announced that several players including Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson would opt out of today's Rose Bowl, Utah was looking like the potential sharp side of the game this afternoon. After opening the Utes as 7-point underdogs, the line has dropped a full three points down to Utah +4.
The betting splits reflect something else, however. 59.9% of the betting tickets have come in on Ohio State, but 75% of the money coming in on the spread is also on the Buckeyes. This is likely a case of reverse line movement; despite the money backing Ohio State, the line has moved in opposition of both the handle and tickets.
The total has also seen a substantial drop from its opening number of 67, falling down 3.5 points to 63.5. 55.9% of the bets have gone on the OVER, while 73.7% of the money is also backing the total going past 63.5.
As for the moneyline, 82.9% of those betting tickets are on Ohio State, but only 74.3% of the money is in agreement for the favorite.
On BetSided's latest "Bet & Breakfast" podcast below, I explained why I'm on both Utah +4 and Utes +150 are two of my favorite bets this week (23:27). I grabbed them early in the week at +6.5 as well.
Sugar Bowl: Baylor vs. Ole Miss
Spread:
- Baylor +1 (-110)
- Ole Miss -1 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Baylor -105
- Ole Miss -115
Total:
- 58 (Over -110 | Under -110)
We've seen this game do a near 180 from where both teams opened at WynnBET, as Baylor started off as the favorite in this matchup at -1.5 (-110). Now, Ole Miss got back up to that same number of -1.5, before settling back to -1.
WynnBET indicates that while 59.8% of the bets are on the Bears, 57.9% of the money is on the Rebels to cover the spread this evening from New Orleans.
Additionally, we've seen the total take a major turn as well; spiking 5.5 points from where the oddsmakers opened the matchup at 53.5. Both the sharps and public are on the OVER, however, as 70.1% of the tickets along with 89.9% of the money is on that side.
The moneyline splits for the Sugar Bowl are fairly split, as Ole Miss -115 has 52.3% of the bets, while 56.8% of the handle is also taking the Rebels to win straight up.
