Wild Wagering Trends for College Football Week 6
By Ben Heisler
In Week 5, we saw Indiana fall to 3-67-1 all-time on the road against Top 10 teams, Penn State became the first team to go from 0-5 to 5-0 since the University of Tennessee in 1989.
More impressively, both events happened in the same game!
What can bettors look forward to this week? Let's dive in with three of the most unusual, wild and wacky betting trends heading into Week 6.
Western Kentucky and Bowling Green Are Undefeated in Both Overs and Unders in 2021
Welcome to Bowling Green, Kentucky, the home of two college football teams who never lose on opposite sides of the total!
Bowling Green out of the Mid-American Conference is 2-3 on the young season, but the under has hit in all five games they've played this year.
Western Kentucky out of Conference USA, 1-3, has hit the over in all four games.
Western Kentucky University is located in... Bowling Green, KY. "Finkle is Einhorn... Einhorn is Finkle".
The Hilltoppers are 3-point favorites at home this week against UT-San Antonio with a total of 69.5. Meanwhile, the Falcons return to MAC-tion this week with a home game against Akron as 14-point favorites with an over/under of only 46.5.
Depending on how you look at it, the city of Bowling Green, Kentucky can claim to be undefeated in totals so far in 2021.
The Total in West Virginia vs. Baylor Has Come Down Every Year Since 2014
When Baylor and West Virginia first got together in the Big 12 back in 2012, the over/under was set at 85. Since 2014, the projected total has gone down every year since; from 80 in 2014, now down to 44.5 via Bets Stats:
WynnBET has the line at 44.5 with the Bears favored by three points. Baylor is 3-2-0 in overs so far this season, while West Virginia is 1-4-0 against the number.
Red River Showdown Favors Oklahoma Straight Up, but Texas Against the Spread
At WynnBET, the Sooners are 3.5-point favorites in the 117th Red River Showdown game with a projected total of 62.5. Oklahoma has won five of the last six meetings against Texas, but the Longhorns have actually been the far superior team to bet on.
Up until last year, when Oklahoma beat Texas 53-45 in the fourth overtime, the Longhorns had been 6-1 in their last seven games against the spread against Oklahoma. Since going 6-0 ATS from 2013-2018, Texas has lost their last two vs. OU both straight-up and ATS.
While Texas bettors got the worst of it a season ago with the game going into overtime four times over, these games always seem to end up being very close at the end. I'd wait to bet this game live and see if the Sooners or Longhorns jump out to a substantial lead and try to grab one of them at +7.5 or higher.
