Worst Bad Beats of the Week (Did Kyle Schwarber Get Robbed vs. Albert Pujols at the Home Run Derby?)

Despite a limited supply of games this week, we still found a way for plenty of bettors to take one on the chin with a few horrendous beats.

Kyle Schwarber (-350) over Albert Pujols (+270) - Home Run Derby Head-to-Head First Round

It's not often that you take a baseball bad beat with no actual games taking place, but one brutal beat took place in Los Angeles Monday night that ranks among the most frustrating of the season.

At the 2022 Home Run Derby, Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber at big odds (-350) over Albert Pujols (+270) of the St. Louis Cardinals got a rude surprise during the first round of their head-to-head matchup.

The two went into overtime, with Pujols hitting a total of 20 dingers. At first glance, it appeared that Schwarber also hit 20, but ESPN's count disagreed as Pujols advanced in a stunning upset.

While Schwarber appeared to hit 20 bombs, ESPN's tracking was based off the MLB Statcast count, indicating no home run missed at the event. As a result, Pujols moved onto the semifinals; sending Schwarber bettors home early.

Washington Nationals star Juan Soto (+600) went on to win the derby over fellow countrymate Julio Rodriguez (+750) of the Seattle Mariners; as two-time reigning champion Pete Alonso fell in the second round.

Connecticut Sun vs. Minnesota Lynx UNDER 164.5 (-110) - Sunday, July 24

The final game of Sunday's WNBA slate looked like a rock fight from the very beginning.

The Sun got off to a 19-13 first quarter led, and led 42-32 at the half on the road. The total listed was 164.5, and with the first half total of just 74 points on the board, this looked like an easy win for those backing the under.

The third quarter was also low-scoring, as Connecticut led 59-53 for a total of 112 with just a quarter to go; needing 53 total points for the over to clear.

Sure enough, 53 was the magic number, and while the over hit by a half-point, it came from two eventually meaningless free throws made by the Suns' Natisha Hiedeman to make the difference.
