3 Best Prop Bets for Cowboys vs. Saints on Thursday Night Football
By Peter Dewey
The New Orleans Saints host the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night, but they will be without several key players as Alvin Kamara, Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramcyzk have all been ruled out.
Those injuries have moved the Cowboys from a 4.5-point road favorite to 6.0 with the total sitting at 47.0 points at WynnBET.
With Kamara out, who will step up for the Saints? Here are a few prop bets I like in this matchup:
Best Prop Bets for Cowboys vs. Saints
- Dallas Cowboys First Half -3.0 vs. New Orleans Saints (-115)
- Taysom Hill Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+175)
- Tre’quan Smith UNDER 41.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
Dallas Cowboys First Half -3.0 vs. New Orleans Saints (-115)
Since Jameis Winston was injured and ruled out for the season, the Saints have gotten outscored 60-13 in the first half of games, getting shut out in the first half twice.
New Orleans has failed to score more than seven points in a half over that stretch, meanwhile Dallas is ninth in the NFL in first half points per game with 13.2.
The Cowboys desperately need a bounce-back game, and I think a now healthy Dallas offense delivers in a big way in New Orleans.
Taysom Hill Anytime Touchdown Scorer (+175)
Taysom Hill will get the start for the Saints on Thursday night, and it’s worth noting that the offense could change drastically with him under center. Sean Payton used a run-heavy offense with Hill last season, and that makes him a great weapon in the red zone.
Dallas allows the 10th fewest rushing yards in the NFL this season, but it has allowed the ninth most rushing touchdowns (11). That leaves the door open for Hill or Mark Ingram to get into the end zone.
I’m choosing Hill because of the value at +175 and the fact that he ran for a touchdown in two of his four starts last season, scoring two apiece in those games. Our Ben Heisler also wrote up this play when the line was at +200, and shared his plays for tonight along with Iain MacMillan and Donnavan Smoot on the new Bet & Breakfast podcast this morning.
Tre’Quan Smith UNDER 41.5 Receiving Yards (-115)
I may be backing Hill on the ground, but he simply isn’t a polished passer at the NFL level, so I’m fading Smith since he has the highest receiving yards total on the board for New Orleans.
Dallas is vulnerable through the air (allowing the eighth most passing yards this season), but Hill averaged just 208.5 passing yards per game in his four starts in 2020.
Smith has gone over this number in just half of his six games this season, so I’ll gladly fade him with uncertainty under center.
