3 Best Prop Bets for Guardians vs. Yankees in ALDS Game 5 (Value on Anthony Rizzo on Monday)
By Peter Dewey
Game 5 of the ALDS should bring a ton of fireworks, similar to the rest of the series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians.
New York forced Game 5 with a road win on Sunday night behind a terrific showing from ace Gerrit Cole.
Now, the Yankees turn to Nestor against either Aaron Civale or Shane Bieber (depending on who the Guardians announce on Tuesday) in what may become a battle of the bullpens.
A rain out on Monday led to Cortes getting the nod on three days rest, but the Guardians have yet to decide if Bieber or Civale will start. For now, all signs point to a bullpen game with Civale leading the way.
If you’re not sold on a winner for this game, here are a few prop bets to consider on Monday night:
Best MLB Prop Bets for Guardians vs. Yankees
- Austin Hedges UNDER 0.5 Hits
- Yankees Team Total UNDER 7.5 Hits
- Anthony Rizzo OVER 0.5 Walks
Austin Hedges UNDER 0.5 Hits
Austin Hedges is just 1-for-14 for the Guardians this postseason, and the team has pinch hit for him in multiple games since they are carrying three catchers on the roster.
That means Hedges could only see two at bats in this matchup, and he’s put together just two hits dating all the way back to Sept. 14.
Hedges is a long shot to pick up even a single in this matchup.
Yankees Team Total UNDER 7.5 Hits
I am going back to the well after this prop cashed for us on Sunday night.
The Yankees haven’t put together more than six hits in a game in this series, and even if they get to Civale they have to face a Guardians bullpen that was top five in MLB in ERA this season. If Bieber gets the start, it's going to be even tougher for this team to clear 7.5 hits.
Terry Francona isn’t going to let this game get out of hand with all the weapons he has in the ‘pen, so I’ll gladly take plus money on the Yankees to stay in the five-to-six hit range in Game 5.
Anthony Rizzo OVER 0.5 Walks
Anthony Rizzo has already drawn three walks in this series for the Yankees, and the veteran first baseman has a knack for working counts.
Civale walked just 22 batters in 97.0 innings this season (2.0 walks per nine), but this is also would be his first postseason start. That, and the fact that the Guardians will have to use several pitchers regardless of who starts the game, gives me confidence that Rizzo has another chance to get on via the free pass.
At +200, it’s worth taking a shot on one of the Yankees’ more disciplined bats.
