3 Team Win Total Overs You Should Take Before NFL Week 1
By Peter Dewey
The 2021 NFL season is just two days away, and there’s still time to lock in some important futures ahead of the start of the new league year.
Today I’m looking at some team win totals that I love heading into this season at WynnBET Sportsbook.
Here are three win totals that I’m taking the OVER on this season:
Packers OVER 10.5 Wins (-125)
Since Aaron Rodgers took over for Brett Favre in the 2008 season, the Green Bay Packers have made the playoffs in 10 of the 13 seasons with Rodgers at the helm, with one of the missed seasons coming in 2017 when Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone.
Green Bay has won 11 or more games in six of those 13 seasons, including back-to-back 13-win seasons in 2019 and 2020. With the NFL moving to a 17-game schedule, I think that the Packers are a lock to win at least 11 games and the -125 odds at WynnBET are worth a bet ahead of Week 1.
Rodgers is back fresh off an MVP season, and he still has Davante Adams, Aaron Jones, and Robert Tonyan from last year’s dominant season. The Packers defense is the biggest concern, but if Rodgers plays anywhere near the level that he did in 2020, the Packers are going to win the NFC North pretty easily.
The fact that Detroit and Chicago are major question marks this season also helps the Packers' win total, and considering that in nine of the 10 years he’s made the postseason Rodgers has posted double-digit wins, I’ll take him to easily hit the over for Green Bay.
Titans OVER 9.5 Wins (-110)
The Tennessee Titans are getting disrespected in the latest Super Bowl odds at WynnBET, but I’m backing them to win double-digit games in arguably the worst division in football.
The Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans are both going to be bad, unless Trevor Lawrence truly can turn around a franchise, which should make things easy on Tennessee to pick up double-digit wins.
With the Titans win total sitting at a pick’em, I think bettors have to trust that Ryan Tannehill is a changed quarterback in Tennessee. His 18-8 record with the Titans is proof that he can lead a playoff team.
Tennessee won 11 games last season despite having the league’s fifth-worst defense, but additions of Caleb Farley, Janoris Jenkins, and Bud Dupree should help make the Titans more respectable on that side of the ball in 2021.
Tennessee is -130 to win the division, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Titans took the AFC South and hit the over on their win total this season.
Rams OVER 10.5 Wins (+100)
This pick may be a little aggressive, but I’m all in on the Los Angeles Rams with Matthew Stafford at quarterback.
Los Angeles was held back by the inconsistent play of Jared Goff last season and still went 10-6, mainly because it had the No. 1 defense in the NFL. Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, and Darious Williams are back to lead that defense again in 2021, and Stafford should get the Rams offense back to the level that it was when they made the Super Bowl in 2018.
Losing Cam Akers hurt, but Stafford was going to throw the ball a ton this season anyway, and Sony Michel and Darrell Henderson are serviceable replacements in the running game. McVay is an offensive genius, and I’m excited to see his offense in action with an improved signal-caller leading the way.
