Ask the Oddsmakers: Syracuse a Popular Upset Pick over Wake Forest in Week 6
By Ben Heisler
Who doesn't love a good moneyline upset pick in college football?
Here at BetSided, we certainly do! In fact, we write up our best plays every week and have gone 14-7 straight up so far this year.
Even our own Peter Dewey has not lost so far this year, going 5-0 in his weekly upsets.
Wake Forest vs. Syracuse - Are the Demon Deacons on Upset Alert?
To see if our picks were on point, we reached out to WynnBET trader Patrick Wall, who helps determine the odds each week for college football. Here's what he had to say regarding one of the more popular upset picks of the week in college football:
“There is no obvious ‘pros vs. Joes’ game that jumps off the page in college football this week. If I had to pick one, I’d look to Wake Forest at Syracuse.
The spread tickets are fairly even. Wake Forest is receiving 55.3% of the spread tickets and 56.8% of the money. However, Syracuse is receiving 83.1% of the moneyline tickets and 93.4% of the money. This number has fallen to six at most shops, but we have yet to take the spread bet to move us back to six. This screams public dog to me. Go Demon Deacons.”
While our Thomas Snodgrass is siding with both the sharps and the public this week with Syracuse +6.5 (as well as +205 on the moneyline), I get where Wall is coming from with No. 19 Wake Forest. The Deacons have one of the best offensive lines in football, giving quarterback Sam Hartman plenty of time to throw and make plays downfield. I also can't trust Syracuse to close out games given their last two games being decided by field goals. At some point, that can completely deflate a team.
I'll be siding with the sportsbooks this week and backing Wake Forest at -6.5 at WynnBET.
