Juan Soto - Washington Nationals at Los Angeles Dodgers

Soto and the Nationals have been giving the Dodgers trouble, and I think the Nats slugger can keep that going against a fly-ball pitcher in Andrew Heaney on Wednesday.

Heaney has made just three starts this season for L.A., and while he’s been good, I can’t get past the fact that he has allowed 1.9, 1.2 and 2.0 homers per nine innings over his last three seasons. The Dodgers lefty gave up 29 homers in 30 games last season, so I expect him to come back to earth a bit after allowing just one in three games in 2022.

Why not back the Home Run Derby champ to take him deep? -- Peter Dewey

Freddie Freeman - Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals

Time to go back to ol' faithful. When I need a dinger, I turn to my fellow Canadian, Freddie Freeman.

I'm especially inclined to take him today, considering he and the Dodgers are taking on Patrick Corbin of the Nationals. Corbin has a 6.02 ERA and is giving up 1.5 home runs per nine innings.

Freeman has already hit six home runs in July, and I'll bet on him to hit his seventh tonight. -- Iain MacMillan

Trayce Thompson - Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Washington Nationals

Patrick Corbin and his ERA north of 6.00 match up against the Dodgers who look to avoid the sweep to the worst team in baseball at home. I wrote earlier today how L.A. has struggled mightily at home against two of the worst teams in baseball; going 0-5 so far this year vs. the Nationals and Pirates in their home park, but I also buy into the OVER as well.

Enter Trayce Thompson, who will be in the lineup hitting sixth as L.A's designated left-hander masher. Thompson owns a career .221 isolated power (ISO) vs. left-handed pitchers, including a .275 ISO at home.

Per BallParkPal, the weather at Dodger Stadium today sets up for a +20% increase in HRs relative to their season average based on the forecast. All the more reason to put your trust in Trayce.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - Toronto Blue Jays at St. Louis Cardinals

Adam Wainwright is starting to regress and it's time to pounce.

The Cardinals starter has allowed six home runs in his last three starts and now travels to the hitter friendly Rogers Centre to face an explosive Blue Jays lineup.

While Vlady may not be putting up triple crown contending numbers, he is more than capable of taking soft tossers deep. He has 21 homers on the year and hitting .279 on the year and is particularly hot of late, hitting .395 over the last two weeks. -- Reed Wallach

J.D. Martinez (+270) - Boston Red Sox vs. Cleveland Guardians

Martinez and the Red Sox close out the night against the Guardians, and I expect Martinez to put his stamp all over this game.

He’s going against Cal Quantrill, who’s had a few issues in his last five starts keeping the ball in play. He’s given up four homers in his last five games and at least one home run in seven of his last nine starts. Martinez has hit seven of his nine home runs against right-handed pitchers this season – which Quantrill is.

At home, this is a great matchup for Martinez to get home run No. 10. -- Donnavan Smoot
