Best MLB Parlay Picks for Today (Two Favorites and a Total Bring Value Despite Small Slate)
By Joe Summers
There's seven MLB games scheduled today which can mean only one of two things: there's a sunflower seed convention and every baseball team "called in sick" or NFL season has finally arrived. Maybe both.
While the masses flock to bet tonight's Bills vs Rams NFL opener, those of us who don't sleep on the MLB value will be rewarded. With several matchups worth targeting, I'm ready to strike while the world is distracted.
Let's jump into it. Here's my favorite MLB parlay picks of the day, using odds from WynnBET Sportsbook:
Best MLB Parlay Picks for Today
Nationals vs Cardinals OVER 8 Runs (+100)
It's a good time to fade both Josiah Gray and Adam Wainwright, as neither pitcher is in sharp form and face potent lineups today.
Gray has an expected FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) above 7.56 in each of his last two starts while issuing nine walks. He's surrendered at least one home run in 11 consecutive outings, allowing multiple blasts in six of those. The St. Louis Cardinals leads MLB in OPS against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks and should take advantage of Gray's mistakes.
That being said, the Washington Nationals rank 11th in that stretch and Adam Wainwright hasn't been sharp either. Chicago tagged the veteran for four runs on nine hits in only five innings last week, cashing the over in the third straight home start for Wainwright.
With two bullpens that don't inspire much confidence backing up a pair of struggling pitchers, I'm betting the over.
Brewers -1.5 (+110) vs Giants Game 1
This is a perfect bounce-back spot for Corbin Burnes taking on the San Francisco Giants in what amounts to a bullpen day. If you haven't been following the Giants much this year, allow me to let you in on a little secret: their bullpen is terrible. San Francisco's relievers have the eighth-worst ERA in MLB, and the Milwaukee Brewers likely won't need more than a few runs anyway with Burnes pitching.
The Giants' lineup ranks 26th in OPS against right-handed pitchers over the last three weeks as the club is 2-10 in its last dozen games as road underdogs. Nine of those losses came by multiple runs, so I like Milwaukee's chances to pick up a critical victory.
Back the Brewers to improve to 9-2 in their last 11 contests as home favorites thanks to a dominant outing from Burnes.
White Sox (-185) vs Athletics
Dylan Cease has just a few starts left to wrestle the AL Cy Young award away from the injured Justin Verlander. Performances like his one-hit complete-game shutout of Minnesota last week will go a long way towards earning Cease the award, and I think he's got another dominant outing in store today.
The Oakland Athletics rank 23rd in OPS against righties since Mid-August. While JP Sears has been solid of late, the Chicago White Sox have MLB's fourth-best OPS against lefties in that same time frame.
We're getting strong odds to back Cease in a crucial matchup not only for his Cy Young aspirations, but also for his team's playoff hopes. Trust in Cease to rise to the occasion and pick up the win.
MLB Parlay for September 8, 2022
The "Strike While the World Sleeps" Parlay (+547)
- Nationals vs Cardinals Over 8.0 (+100)
- Brewers -1.5 (+110) vs Giants Game 1
- White Sox (-185) vs Athletics
It's time to strike, folks. With games sprinkled throughout the day, I'm excited to let everyone at my Bills vs. Rams watch party know later on that I've already cashed a huge parlay on the day thanks to this bad boy.
Odds of +547 pay out $136.75 on a $25 bet, which is more than enough to treat your friends to some pizza while bringing in the NFL season. There's value to be had in baseball and it's our duty to take advantage.
Best of luck as always - let's get after it!
