Betting on the NFL, especially early in the week is a gamble onto itself. Back the right side, and you're sitting pretty with terrific CLV, or closing line value, while the rest of the betting public is chasing after a much-worse number on a game. Back the wrong side of the move, then perhaps the joke is on you.

For the bettors who jumped on the Minnesota Vikings at their opening number of +7.5 this week in Buffalo, they're not just happy, they're dancing in the streets.

Throughout the week, the Bills' opening number vs. the spread has continued to slowly tick towards the Vikings' side, as quarterback and MVP candidate Josh Allen had reportedly been dealing with an elbow injury suffered towards the conclusion of their Week 9 road loss to the New York Jets in the Meadowlands.

Following Bills' head coach Sean McDermott's press conference on Wednesday early afternoon, despite not ruling Allen out for Sunday and calling it "day-to-day," the oddsmakers in Vegas don't seem to agree.

Sportsbooks moved the Vikings-Bills line as much as three points further down towards the Vikings throughout Wednesday, and it may not stop there.

On Tuesday, the Vikings and Bills were one of the games I discussed as a matchup to grab before the line moves when Minnesota was still available at +6.5. With the line down to just over a field goal at most books, unless bettors think it's going even lower, a significant portion of the value on Minnesota is already out the door.

Despite their 7-1 regular season record, the Vikings are just 3-4-1 against the spread this season, while the Bills are 6-1-2 ATS over their last nine games after a straight-up loss, as well as 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven matchups at home.

Earlier this week on FanSided's Stacking the Box podcast, national NFL Insider Matt Verderame, Sterling Holmes and I debated whether the Vikings should actually be favorites on the road if Allen is ruled out for Sunday.

I'm thankful to have grabbed the Vikings when I did at +6.5, but then again, I also remembered I was the doofus who teased Buffalo at their opening line of -7.5 down to -1.5.
