The Kansas City Chiefs will get a second look at the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild card round of the NFL playoffs.
Kansas City dismantled the Steelers in Week 16, winning 36-10, and they should have no problem handling Ben Roethlisberger and company in the postseason.
FanSided’s NFL insider Matt Verderame found an interesting stat on double-digit favorites in the playoffs, and let’s just say the Chiefs have a great shot at coming away with a win.
Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, there have been 58 playoff games with a double-digit favorite. Those teams are 48-10 straight up and 34-23-1 against the spread.

The Chiefs are 13-point favorites on Sunday against the Steelers, the largest spread in Wild Card history
Double-digit favorites have also done a great job covering the spread, but this game is actually the largest spread between two teams in playoff history.
Here’s a look at the latest odds via WynnBET:
Steelers vs. Chiefs Odds, Spread and Total
Spread:
- Steelers +13 (-110)
- Chiefs -13 (-110)
Moneyline:
- Steelers: +500
- Chiefs: -700
Total:
- 46.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
Obviously, there is very little value in taking the Chiefs on the moneyline in this game, but this trend does suggest that they have a solid shot at covering the spread.
However, Mike Tomlin is insane at covering the spread as an underdog in his coaching career, going 47-25-3 since 2007. These two trends make it tough to pick who will end up covering in this game, but Chiefs fans will love that 48 of 58 teams favored by 10 or more points came away with a win.
Kansas City is currently +475 at WynnBET to be crowned Super Bowl champions, and Chiefs bettors should be safe through the wild card round if this trend holds.
