It’s a battle of the birds in Week 1 of the NFL season as the Atlanta Falcons get set to host the Philadelphia Eagles.

Both teams will have new leaders at the helm, and one of the two will start their head coaching career off with a win.

The Falcons gave Dan Quinn the boot after missing the playoffs for the third straight season. They hired former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith to take his place. The team also parted ways with general manager Thomas Dimitroff, who was with the team since 2008. Terry Fontenot was hired as the new lead man in the front office.

Not only were there changes in the coaching and general management positions, but the team also traded away Julio Jones, its longtime star receiver, to the Tennessee Titans.

Matt Ryan will once again be under center for the Falcons as they try to return to their winning ways in the challenging NFC South.

Much like the Falcons, the Eagles also made a coaching change. Out is Doug Pederson, and in comes Nick Sirianni, who served as the offensive coordinator in Indianapolis for the past three seasons.

Jalen Hurts will get a chance to prove himself in Philadelphia this year, as he’ll have a full season to show what he can do as the starting quarterback.

Eagles vs. Falcons Prediction and Pick

Full disclosure: I’m a diehard Falcons fan.

With that being said, I’m betting against my dirty birds this week.

I think their defense will be among the worst in the NFL this season, and they’re entering the start of a rebuilding phase in Atlanta.

The team has also never historically done well against mobile quarterbacks. I called it the “Michael Vick curse." I think Jalen Hurts, who is supremely underrated, can have a field day against this Falcons defense.

The Eagles biggest weakness last season was pass protection, giving up an average of 3.3 sacks per game. Well, they shouldn’t need to worry about that against an Atlanta defense that is still in search of a top pass rusher. They averaged 1.8 sacks per game in 2020, which ranked 24th in the NFL.

I don’t know if the Eagles will win the game outright, but with the spread being set higher than the magical number of three, I’ll take Philadelphia to cover the 3.5 points.
