The No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs pulled out a gritty win in Week 1 over the Clemson Tigers, but it came at a cost.

Starting quarterback JT Daniels is dealing with an oblique injury that has left his status up in the air for Georgia’s home opener against UAB. ESPN’s Robert Griffin III said that the team is unsure if Daniels will be able to go, but all signs point to redshirt freshman Carson Beck playing in Week 2.

"They're not sure if he's going to go," Griffin said on Friday. "But they've given him time off this week to heal. He feels like it's progressed well."

Daniels played well enough to win in Week 1 against Clemson, but he certainly wasn’t great, as he completed 22 of his 30 passes for 135 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.

The Bulldogs are still a major favorite in Week 2, although they are not among the biggest favorites this week, but the line has moved in favor of UAB at WynnBET in the wake of the news about Daniels’ status.

Georgia opened as a 26.5-point home favorite, but the line has now moved to 22.5 points with Beck expected to make the start.

Risking Daniels’ health in a game the Bulldogs are expected to win easily wouldn’t be a smart move, especially after last week’s win moved them all the way to No. 2 in the AP Poll.

Georgia has the second-best odds to win the College Football Playoff at +525, but a big reason behind that is because Daniels is expected to be under center. If the Bulldogs don’t risk their star’s health, and they shouldn’t, then UAB might have a chance to hang around in Week 2.

The Blazers won their season opener against Jacksonville State 31-0, and after watching Georgia's offense struggle in Week 1, this could be another close game where the defense has to handle business for the Bulldogs.
