How Does Trey Lance Have Better MVP Odds Than Teddy Bridgewater?

Sports bettors will always have a soft spot for Teddy Bridgewater because of his amazing against the spread record as a starter (38-14), but the Denver Broncos quarterback has actually played extremely well to open this season.

Bridgewater has thrown for 592 yards, four touchdowns and has yet to turn the ball over, leading the Broncos to a 2-0 start.

The Broncos have moved up in their odds to win the AFC West, as they are now +450 (second behind the Kansas City Chiefs), but Bridgewater is criminally underrated in WynnBET’s odds to win the league’s MVP award

Yes, it is unlikely that Bridgewater wins the award, but he’s currently at +7500 odds, while rookie Trey Lance (who is the San Francisco 49ers’ backup) is at +6000. How!?

Bridgewater’s job security was certainly question entering this season with Drew Lock waiting in the wings, but the Broncos have played better football in the first two weeks of 2021 than they have in a long time, and it would be shocking to see Vic Fangio turn to Lock unless Bridgewater was injured or had an epic drop off in play over the next few weeks.

Denver is a dark horse team to make the postseason, as WynnBET now projects the Broncos to win 10.5 games with the over (-120) as the favorite to the under (+100). If the Broncos win 11 games in the AFC West and make the playoffs, Bridgewater is going to deserve some MVP consideration.

The Broncos were just 5-11 in 2020 and there is likely some regression coming as the schedule gets tougher, but if you want an extreme dark horse to win MVP at crazy odds, Bridgewater is worth a shot after his hot start.
