Mac Jones vs. Dak Prescott: Who Will Throw for More Yards in Cowboys vs. Patriots?
By Thomas Snodgrass
The Dallas Cowboys will be traveling into Foxborough, Massachusetts this Sunday to take on Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots.
The Cowboys stomped out their division rival New York Giants last week, 44-20. Dallas’ quarterback Dak Prescott would complete 22 of 32 passes for 302 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. It was Prescott’s first passing performance of 300 or more yards since slinging 403 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
The Patriots escaped with a narrow win over the Houston Texans in Week 5, 25-22. New England were down 22-9 halfway through the third quarter, but would score 16 unanswered points the rest of the way.
Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones would complete 23 of 30 passes in the win, throwing for 231 yards, one touchdown and an interception. In his first five games Jones has averaged 248.6 passing yards per game.
Who will have more passing yards in Week 6: Mac or Dak?
WynnBET Sportsbook has set Prescott’s passing yards prop at 274.5 yards (Over: -115/Under: -115) and Jones’ passing yards prop at 275.5 (Over: -115/Under: -115).
The Cowboys defense has allowed 327.6 passing yards per game (32nd in the NFL), and New England’s defense has allowed 224.2 passing yards per game (6th in the NFL). It would appear that Jones has the leg up on Prescott on this one, but Davis Mills threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns against this Patriots defense last week.
Prescott has averaged 273.6 passing yards per game, and he is a much better quarterback than Davis Mills, so he should be able to gain some yards against this opponent's defense.
With how poorly Dallas has done against passing yards, and the depressing state that New England’s rushing offense is currently in, I will side with Mac Jones on this one. I’ll say Jones has more yards, but both he and Prescott will hit the over on their passing yards props.
