The most electric event in the world of golf is set to begin this week with the Ryder Cup.

Team USA will take on Team Europe for the rights to claim golf dominance. Europe has won seven of the last nine events, and this year’s edition of the tournament is set to take place at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin.

The most important thing to keep in mind when choosing who to wager on for this prop bet, is that not every golfer plays in the same amount of matches. The top golfers will compete in all five rounds, while some will only play in two.

Only three golfers for Team USA played in all five rounds in the 2018 Ryder Cup. Those golfers were Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, and Jordan Spieth. Thomas had the best record of the three at 4-1, and finished with the most points for USA with four.

I’m going to go with Patrick Cantlay at +700. The FedEx Cup winner was recently named Golfer of the Year, and he’ll enter the tournament in the best form of all competitors. His style also makes him a great teammate in the foursomes and fourball events, as his consistency and fantastic putting will be a great compliment to some of the bombers on Team USA.

Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy are realistically the only two golfers who will compete in all five rounds of the Ryder Cup, so you’re likely deciding between those two for who will record the most points.

Tommy Fleetwood recorded four points in five matches in 2018, but his recent form will make captain Padraig Harrington hesitant to start him in all five rounds.

Even though he has the shortest odds, I’m going to back Jon Rahm at +350. He’s the No. 1 golfer in the world right now for a reason, and he excels in every facet of the game. His competitive spirit should do nothing but help him in the Ryder Cup, and I expect him to lead the Europe squad this year.
