Two teams who had their Super Bowl hopes fall short in 2020 are set to face each other in Week 1 when the Pittsburgh Steelers visit Buffalo to take on the Bills.

The Steelers will look to mimic last year’s early season success when they got off to a perfect 11-0 start, but they’ll try to avoid the pitfalls that caused them to lose five of their last six games which ended in a wild card loss in the playoff to the Cleveland Browns.

Ben Roethlisberger is back for at least one more season, but the argument could be made that he’s hurting the Steelers more than helping them, by returning for another year. His best years are well behind him, and he struggled down the stretch last season. He’s not as mobile as he once was, and his arm has lost the zip that it had when he was at his peak.

Meanwhile, the Bills seem to be trending in the right direction and fans in Buffalo think this could be the year that they finally win a Super Bowl. Josh Allen has established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, and he enters this season with +900 odds at WynnBET to be named MVP. He has the second shortest odds next to only Patrick Mahomes (+550).

Both teams are re-tooled and re-focused, and will look to get off on the right foot with a win on Sunday.

Here’s how the odds at WynnBET Sportsbook look for the game ahead of Sunday:

Steelers vs. Bills Spread, Odds, and Over/Under

Spread:

Steelers +6.5 (-110)

Bills -6.5 (-110)

Moneyline:

Steelers +225

Bills -285

Over/Under:

48.5 (Over -115/Under -105)

Steelers vs Bills Betting Trends

  • The Bills had the second best record against the spread in 2020 at 12-7 (63.2%)
  • The Bills has the fourth best OVER record at 12-6-1 (66.7%)
  • The Steelers are 10-3 in their last 13 games against the Bills
  • Buffalo has won five straight games at home
  • Pittsburgh led the NFL in sacks in 2020, averaging 3.3 per game
  • The Bills beat the Steelers 26-15 in Week 14 last year

Steelers vs. Bills Prediction and Pick

Instead of betting on the spread in this game, I think the best bet to make is the UNDER 48.5 points.

I don’t trust the Steelers offense this year with Big Ben back to being under center. They failed to reach 20 points in three of their final five regular season games last year, with one of those coming against this same Bills team when they only put up 15.

Meanwhile, the Bills will be going up against arguably the best defense in football. What’s even more important, is the Steelers strengths matchup well with the Bills strengths. 72.96% of the Bills offensive yards last year came through the air, which was the sixth highest mark in the NFL. Pittsburgh’s defense should slow that air attack down, as it allowed the second fewest passing yards per game in 2020 at 198.4.

It’s not the most fun bet to make, but I think it’s the right one. 48.5 is too high of a total in this one, give me the UNDER.
