The Cleveland Browns took a narrow loss from the defending AFC Champion Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Baker Mayfield managed the offense well enough to help the Browns cover on the spread, but failed to pick up the win.

Kansas City found itself down by 12 points at half-time, but stormed back to pick up the win, outscoring Cleveland in the second half, 23 to 7 to ultimately win 33-29. This game saw a total of 62, hitting the over, which was set at 54.5.

The Houston Texans surprised many in Week 1, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 37-21. While Deshaun Watson sat out, due to off-field issues, Tyrod Taylor filled in admirably; throwing for 291 yards and two touchdowns.

The Houston offense recorded zero turnovers, while their defense picked up three of their own, intercepting rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence three times in his debut. The Texans were 3.0-point underdogs going into the matchup, but picked up the win easily. The surprisingly effective Houston offense helped this game reach a total of 58, hitting the over, set at 45.5.

Texans vs. Browns Prediction and Pick

The Texans are not unwatchable! At least they weren’t in Week 1.

Tyrod Taylor looked like a starting NFL quarterback, and the Houston defense forced a few turnovers. They looked like a team that was ready to go, but that was against a rookie quarterback making his NFL debut (Trevor Lawrence), and a head coach also making his NFL debut (Urban Meyer).

Cleveland looked strong all game against Kansas City in Week 1, and there’s no reason to expect the Browns to exit the game against the Texans as an 0-2 team. Cleveland’s running game, with running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt, will roll over this Houston defense; and Mayfield won’t make the same mistake twice.

The spread is fairly lofty at this point, and you could wait to see how the line moves and wait for it to maybe drop, but I’m not waiting around. I like Cleveland to win by two touchdowns in this one. The Browns are going to have a big showing in their home opener to prove that the Dawgs can shred with the big dogs.
