This Trevon Diggs Stat Enhances His Defensive Player of the Year Case Even Further
By Peter Dewey
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is on another level this season.
The second-year corner picked up another interception in Week 5, his sixth in five games, in Dallas’ win over the New York Giants.
Diggs became the first Cowboys player since 1970 (51 years ago) to record an interception in each of his first five games of a season. That’s some wild stuff, and it should move him up the odds at WynnBET Sportsbook to win the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
Diggs has been a big reason why Dallas is 4-1 this season and the only team in the NFL that is undefeated against the spread in 2021.
Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott referred to his teammate as the best cornerback in the NFL after the team’s win over the Carolina Panthers, and I’m sure he’d double down on that statement again ahead of Week 6.
The Cowboys will face a rookie quarterback in the New England Patriots’ Mac Jones in Week 6. Diggs has done a great job baiting young quarterbacks (Sam Darnold, Jalen Hurts, Justin Herbert) into interceptions this year, and Jones has thrown at least one pick in his last three games.
The longer Diggs keeps this crazy streak alive, the more you have to think about Dallas as a true contender in the NFC.
