Top MLB Picks and Predictions Today (Two Underdogs, One Total to Bet on Monday)
When college basketball is done and the NBA playoffs are waiting to start up, there's almost nothing to bet on other than baseball, and the BetSided duo of Reed Wallach and Joe Summers have you covered with breakdowns for every game on Monday.
Here are four of their top picks, with all odds via WynnBET:
Toronto Blue Jays vs. New York Yankees Prediction and Pick
Wait, the Blue Jays are underdogs? With this offense and Alek Manoah on the mound? There must be some mistake.
Maybe bettors haven't caught on to how good this Toronto offense is, or maybe they aren't familiar with Manoah, or maybe the Yankees are just overrated. I don't know. But something is amiss. The Blue Jays should be decent favorites today and I'm stunned that there's a "+" symbol next to their odds.
But hey, I'm not one to return gifts so I'll just say "Thank you!" to WynnBET as I happily collect my dollars from a resounding Toronto win today.
If you're not familiar, the 6'6", 260lb Manoah is a Machine (yes, capital "M" Machine). The Blue Jays only lost four of the 20 games he started all season and he got stronger as the year went on, amassing a 1.71 ERA over his final four starts.
Tallion, meanwhile, is great at Yankee Stadium, but relies heavily on his fastball. That's bad news against a Toronto offense that was the best in the MLB at hitting fastballs in 2021 and is actually better this year.
I expect Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to continue his torrid start to pair with George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez, Bo Bichette, and company. The Blue Jays have the best offenses in baseball and have one of the best pitchers in baseball on the mound today. It's blasphemy they're underdogs.
Oh well, though. Oddsmakers' loss is our gain. Toronto all the way.

Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves Prediction and Pick
This line is undervaluing the Braves quite a bit. The team may not have Freddie Freeman anymore, but new star first baseman Matt Olson hasn't missed a beat in his place. Olson has eight hits through 4 games, the most in Major League Baseball thus far.
While the Braves weren't elite hitting left-handed pitching last season, the team got on base a ton, tied for the league lead in walk percentage against lefties. With the team able to get on base at a high clip, the Braves should have little issue chasing Nationals starter Josh Rogers early from this one.
I'm going to side with the more talented offense to take care of a suspect Washington pitching staff that struggled to keep the Mets down on opening weekend. This is a fairly disrespectful line and I like Atlanta to get on track against a Nationals team that lacks a ton of firepower outside of Juan Soto.
LEAN: Braves -190 -- Reed Wallach

New York Mets vs. Philadelphia Phillies Prediction and Pick
After being inconsistent last season, the Mets lineup seems to be as dangerous as anyone in the National League. The likes of Starling Marte and Mark Canha are proving to be fantastic additions around Pete Alonso in the Mets lineup and the team seems equipped to put up runs against a still vulnerable Phillies pitching staff.
While Ranger Suarez is a dangerous left handed arm, the Phils bullpen that has held the team back in recent years is still unproven and the Mets ascent on offense can put that unit to the test on Monday night.
Meanwhile, the Mets will send out Taijuan Walker for his first start of the season. After earning his first All-Star nod of his career in 2021, Walker fell off a cliff in the second half of last season, posting a 6.60 ERA after the start of July.
The Phillies lineup is as vaunted as advertised, with free agent signings Kyle Schwarber and Nick Castellanos acclimating quickly to the lineup around Bryce Harper. I think we see a high scoring affair with the suspect pitching on the mound and power at the dish.
LEAN: OVER 9 -- Reed Wallach
Boston Red Sox vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction and Pick
I've got a lot of optimism for Matt Manning in his second season. The former No. 9 overall draft pick looked great in spring training and closed last year strong, surrendering three or fewer runs in seven of his final nine games.
Manning's 4.62 FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) suggests his 5.80 ERA was a bit unlucky as well. He's not a big strikeout pitcher, but he limits hard contact and doesn't walk many batters. If he can continue to improve control of his secondary pitches he could have a huge year.
Meanwhile, Michael Wacha is sort of the definition of mediocrity. He's a fine pitcher, but has never been great, and is best suited for end-of-the-rotation duties. In spring training, Wacha surrendered 11 runs and 19 hits over 15 innings, so he's hardly in excellent form either.
The Tigers are a popular pick to make a run at the playoffs. That doesn't happen without a strong season from Manning and I think he gets it going with a win today. Detroit is 5-2 in their last seven at home against a right-handed pitcher and should tee off on Wacha. Give me Motor City.
