Vegas is Disrespecting Kenneth Walker III in Heisman Odds
Maybe it’s because the game happened on Friday night and was quickly forgotten due to a jam-packed Saturday slate, but not enough people are talking about Kenneth Walker III’s performance for Michigan State against Northwestern.
The junior running back ran for 264 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns for the Spartans, leading the team to a 38-21 victory over the Wildcats.
Walker finished as the week’s leading rusher, with nine more yards than Duke’s Mataeo Durant.
Not only that, but he did it against a stout Northwestern defense. The Wildcats allowed the 19th fewest yards per game in 2020 at 341.2. They also allowed an average of 145.9 rushing yards per game, and Walker III smashed that number by almost 120 yards.
Despite being one of the top players in the country in Week 1, oddsmakers don’t think he’s deserving of even being on the odds list to win this year’s Heisman Trophy.
WynnBET has released an updated list of odds to win the award, and Walker’s name can’t be found on the list. If you wanted to bet on him right now, your only option would be to bet on “The Field” at +1000.
Betting on the field means that if any player wins the award that isn’t included on the list, your bet would cash.
Walker III isn’t the only player who had an impressive Week 1. Bryce Young and Matt Corral also had eye-opening performances, but both of their names were already included on the Heisman list and saw their odds only get better after this weekend.
Michigan State will take on Youngstown State this week, which should provide Walker III with another chance to pad his resume.
A guy can only have so many 200-yard rushing games before oddsmakers have no choice but to give him the respect he deserves.
