The New York Yankees are tied with the Boston Red Sox and one game behind the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League wild card race, but oddsmakers finally seem to be losing faith in New York.

The Yankees made a major jump in WynnBET’s World Series odds after putting together a 13-game winning streak, but they have struggled mightily since then, losing series to the Baltimore Orioles, New York Mets, Los Angeles Angels, and getting swept by Toronto.

New York was in danger of suffering another bad loss on Monday, but it rallied from a 5-0 deficit to win on a walk-off hit by Gary Sanchez in the 10th inning.

However, Monday’s game showed why the Yankees aren’t a legit World Series contender and why WynnBET has moved their odds from +900 to +1200 to win the title. Monday was the Yankees’ first win when trailing by four or more runs in a game this season.

They were 0-35 in said games prior to the win over the Minnesota Twins, which was the worst mark in all of baseball (tied with the Miami Marlins).

Injuries to Jonathan Loaisiga, Zack Britton, Jameson Taillon and Gerrit Cole haven’t helped the Yankees’ case, and I’ve said that they’re too volatile of a team to trust as a World Series pick.

Could the Yankees get hot again and make a playoff run? Maybe. But their play over the last month has shown us that they are an average team fighting for a playoff spot that can occasionally look like a legitimate contender. That’s not the type of team, especially with their recent injuries, that I would want to wager on to win the Fall Classic.
