Things have changed in a hurry for the New York Yankees after their 13-game winning streak.

New York’s rollercoaster season saw a new low hit on Thursday night when they were swept by the Toronto Blue Jays in a four-game set. It was the Yankees’ 10th loss in 12 games, as they have gone from the top spot in the wild card to clinging to a half-game lead over Toronto for the final spot in the American League.

What makes matters worse is New York didn’t even hold a lead in the series with the Jays. It was the first time since 1924 that the Yankees were swept in a four-game series without ever leading.

Yikes.

Somehow, WynnBET still has the Yankees’ odds to win the World Series at +900, which is tied for sixth with the San Francisco Giants, but I can’t imagine making a bet on this team to make a deep playoff run.

Less than two weeks ago, I wrote that bettors should be careful about trusting the Yankees as a contender, as they followed their 13-game win streak with four straight losses. That has come true, as New York is in danger of missing the playoffs again after looking like a lock entering the month of September.

To make matters worse, the Yankees have lost several key pitchers over the past two weeks, as Gerrit Cole was lifted early from his last start with a hamstring injury, Jameson Taillon is on the injured list with an ankle injury, and star reliever Jonathan Loaisiga is on the injured list with a rotator cuff strain and may miss the rest of the season.

As much as Yankees fans wanted this team to turn a corner, New York is the same team it's been all season. The Yankees are mediocre at best, with extreme highs and extreme lows, and now they don’t have the pitching (which has been good this season with a combined 3.70 ERA) to make up for the offensive struggles they’ve had all year.

Oddsmakers may not be out on the Yankees, but I’d advise bettors to stay away from them at +900, as there isn’t enough betting value to take a team that easily could miss the playoffs.
