The Denver Broncos flirted with potential disaster when they low-balled free agent wide receiver Wes Welker. For a team that doesn’t have many receiving options outside of the tight end position, it was a risky move and it looks like it won’t pay off. The belief is that the Patriots wanted Welker to test the open market to gauge the interest and he’d realize he wasn’t as hot of a commodity as he had imagined.

Unfortunately for the Patriots, Welker did test the market and he is very likely to sign with the Denver Broncos.

Mike Silver of Yahoo Sports went on to say that the deal is “almost done.”
