With the 29th pick in the NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select: Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State

Though we fully expect the Patriots to move down into the first part of the second round, Wheaton is still the pick.  Has versatility and major amounts of experience against press coverages, as Oregon State’s defense favors press coverage from their defensive backs, and Wheaton had to beat them in practice every day.  Can work inside from the slot or move outside to take advantage of his honest track speed.

The wide out burner is essential to keep the defenses from completely collapsing down on what they’re trying to do with the tight ends and slot receivers underneath, so the Patriots select the best pure deep ball catcher in the draft and he will start immediately.  Already in his career, Wheaton is drawing favorable comparisons to Mike Wallace with the less than ideal size but is greased lightning with sticky hands.
