Syracuse’s Michael Carter-Williams has been the center of discussion involving the upcoming NBA Draft. In an interview last week, he told Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald that he would like to get away from home and play somewhere else when Bulpett asked him what it would be like to be drafted by the Boston Celtics.

Carter-Williams was raised in Hamilton, MA, and the Celtics are the team that the 21-year old point guard grew up watching. With that said, there was obviously some raised eyebrows and criticism of his comments.

Recently, Carter-Williams, who has been linked to the Celtics in Chad Ford’s mock draft, told Ben Rohrbach of WEEI that it would be a blessing to play for his hometown team.

"“If I was drafted by the Celtics, I’d be just as happy as I would being drafted by anyone else,” said the 21-year-old. “It’s a great place. It’s been home to me. It would be a blessing to play there. I’d be real excited. I guess the question caught me off guard. That’s how I really feel. I’d be happy to play for them as well as any other team.”"

With Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett possibly moving on to play elsewhere, the Celtics will begin the rebuilding process. Most believe that regardless of who is on the board, Danny Ainge and company should take a big man with the 16th overall pick. However, most NBA teams believe that the best way to rebuild quickly is acquire the best assets possible, as quickly as possible. If Carter-Williams is available when the Celtics are on the clock, there is a good chance that he may be the best player available. If that is the case, Boston should not hesitate to select him and worry about a big man later or via free agency or trade.
