As Major League Baseball prepares to reportedly suspend a slew of players in connection to the Miami steroid clinic run by Tony Bosch, one guy who showed up on documents will not face punishment. Washington Nationals pitcher Gio Gonzalez had his name appear on documents obtained from the clinic in Miami but since his substances were legal.

The news was reported a few months back but T.J. Quinn and Mike Fish from Outside the Lines reiterated that Gonzalez will not face punishment and has been excused from the firing line.

"One player listed who will be scrutinized but possibly exonerated is the Nationals’ Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez was listed among Biogenesis clients, but two sources told ESPN that the only substances he received from the clinic were legal."

It’s important to note that Quinn and Fisher said that Gonzalez will be ‘possibly exonerated’ rather than something more definitive. At this time it’s still too early to tell who will and won’t be suspended by baseball for this scandal but if there’s a guy who might not have to sweat as hard it’s Gonzalez.

He’s not out of the woods yet but it raises the question of how many other players were legal members of the clinic and didn’t indulge in steroid use? Logic suggests that since Gonzalez’s supposed innocence surfaced months ago we would have heard of more guys before this latest bit of news was broke by ESPN and Outside The Lines.

The worse thing anyone can do here is jump to conclusions and while that means no one is guilty just yet, no one is innocent either — not even Gonzalez who appears to have had his name cleared but will have to wait and see what Tony Bosch’s testimony reveals.
