The New York Jets quarterback competition has captured the attention of the media throughout minicamps and OTAs, but if you ask one of the team’s veteran wide receivers there doesn’t appear to be much of a doubt about who will be the starting signal-caller entering the season. Holmes has been supporting Sanchez throughout the entire offseason and he reconfirmed his stance Wednesday.

[Sanchez is] going to be our guy,” Holmes said, via ESPN New York. “Coaches brought him back and they kept him on this team for a reason. He’s a great leader and he’s got great potential and he’s excited about this season upcoming, and so am I.”

Holmes goes as far as to say that the entire Jets team has Sanchez’s back.

“I think everybody believes in him,” Holmes said “He wouldn’t be here if anybody didn’t believe in him. He’s still wearing the same No. 6 jersey that he wore since the day he got drafted here, and I think the organization and even the team love him and we’re going to continue supporting him.”

While Sanchez may struggle when he’s on the field, it says a lot that the team still believes in him.

Second-round pick Geno Smith may make a push for the starting job, but it would make more sense for the Jets to go with their veteran that has the support of the offense rather than an unproven commodity who may not be ready for the NFL.

Of course, one butt fumble during minicamps and Holmes’ prediction could be wrong.
