The Chicago Blackhawks won the 2010 Stanley Cup on a goal nobody saw go in except the guy who shot it and the goalie. That was the exact same way the Blackhawks won the 2013 Stanley Cup as they successfully marched into Boston and walked out with Lord Stanley’s Cup. After trailing 2-1 late in the third period, the Blackhawks scored two goals in 0:17 seconds to shock the Bruins in front of their home crowd to take home their second Stanley Cup in four years.

Both Tuukka Rask and Corey Crawford were brilliant in Game 6 which was something both teams needed from their netminders. Rask helped carry the Bruins to this point in the Stanley Cup Playoffs after shutting down the Pittsburgh Penguins and naturally he was the talk of the series heading into things. But credit does need to go Corey Crawford’s way for matching Rask almost save for save as both goalies posted amazing saves that helped keep their teams in the game throughout the series.

What Boston needed to do was beat up the Blackhawks, who displayed an ineptitude to play smart hockey when they were getting beat over the head with physicality. The Minnesota Wild stole a game from them by playing this way and the Red Wings nearly upset the Hawks by jus hitting them as hard as they possibly could.

But the hard hits caught up with both sides and the fatigue that showed up in Game 5 carried over in Game 6. This is a Stanley Cup that the Chicago Blackhawks earned with literal blood and sweat and it has to go down as so much more satisfying than their 2010 Stanley Cup win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Chicago had guys who stepped up big when they needed to as Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews were studs in the series for different reasons. Kane was able to get huge goals when Chicago needed them and Toews remained Captain Cool and didn’t allow the Bruins head games to derail him like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin allowed in the Conference Finals.

The Blackhawks earned this Stanley Cup in every single meaning of that cliché. You don’t get a more exciting finish to a hockey game and you do not get a more thrilling finish to a Stanley Cup Final. The Blackhawks were the best team in the regular season and they’re now the best team in hockey once again.
