The Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen is had his shoulder surgically repaired this offseason. And he is healing well and quickly. During an appearance on NFL AM he was asked if he’d be ready by the start of training camp and Allen had an interesting answer.

“Unfortunately, yes,” Allen said, said via Pro Football Talk. “I was hoping to get a couple weeks of training camp off. But training sounds pretty good and I’m ready to rock and roll.”

The 31 year old veteran has been to a lot of training camps and knows what to expect. Missing some hot July and August practices wouldn’t be a bad thing. We saw Brett Favre do it repeatedly, waiting until mid training camp to decide if he was retiring or playing.

Allen is headed into the final year of his contract. But while most players would be focused on a new contract Allen is content just to play football.

“I’m just focusing on my shoulder right now,” he said. “I’m in kind of a blessed place where both sides are honoring the contract that we signed.”
