Baltimore Ravens head coach Jim Harbaugh called out young linebacker Courtney Upshaw this offseason for being out of shape. Upshaw was reportedly nearing the 300-pound range, when Harbaugh decided to speak up.

Apparently, someone was listening.

Upshaw hired a personal trainer for the offseason and he has been putting in the hard work. If you believe the words that are being said about Upshaw’s physique now, Harbaugh will be pleasantly surprised when the linebacker reports for training camp.

“Courtney has been very consistent and has dropped about 20 pounds from 295 pounds and has been fluctuating between 275 pounds to 278 pounds,” Upshaw’s trainer, Troy Jones, said via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. “He’s been very dedicated. He has a great work ethic, he works extremely hard. He’s a quiet guy. When Courtney makes up his mind, he doesn’t hesitate. He’ll pass the conditioning test. Courtney is very explosive.”

That is obviously great news for the Ravens.

With the loss of talent the Ravens suffered during the offseason, they will need players to step up at every position.

Upshaw is one of those players that could really emerge as a star for their defensive unit and, now that he is in shape, his chances of doing just that are better than ever.
