The Boston Red Sox have optioned right handed pitcher Jose De La Torre to Triple-A Pawtucket.

De La Torre was sent down today as the Red Sox added Jake Peavy and Steven Wright to their active roster. The 27 year old right hander has an ERA of 6.35 and a K/BB ratio of 15/10 in 11 1/3 innings of work this season for the Red Sox.

With that move being official, Tim Britton reported on Twitter that newly acquired Jake Peavy will make his Red Sox debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. Peavy was acquired earlier this week in a 3 team deal with the Detroit Tigers.

He’ll carry an ERA of 4.28 and 76/17 K/BB ratio over 80 innings into this start on Saturday.

The Boston Red Sox can now go into October, if all is well with Clay Bucholz, with Jon Lester, Bucholz and Jake Peavy at the top of the rotation.

Peavy has playoff experience, pitching in playoff games in 2005 and 2006 for the San Diego Padres against the St. Louis Cardinals. He was actually destroyed in both starts, going 0-2 with a 12.10 ERA, but that was a long time ago.

The Red Sox picked up a determined Peavy, who is looking to pick up a win in his debut for the Red Sox against the Diamondbacks.
