One of the biggest stories now that NBA free agency is all but over this year is actually what could happen next offseason, especially with New York Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony has the ability to opt out of his contract with the Knicks next offseason and he is not exactly going out of his way to reassure fans he won’t do just that (per  Marc Berman of the New York Post):

When asked if this season was major for him in terms of making a decision, Anthony demurred.

"“I can’t do that,’’ he told ESPN.com while coaching at his summer basketball camp in Las Vegas. “It’s too tough right now.“It’s a big year,” said Anthony, who just came back from China for his Jordan Brand trip. “A huge upcoming season for me, as a team and as an organization.”It could be a bigger year for the Nets, and Anthony gave them more lavish praise for their offseason moves, calling it “special.’’"

Anthony seems happy with the additions the Knicks made this offseason, but was equally impressed with what the Brooklyn Nets were able to do as well.

Much has been said about what Melo and Miami Heat star LeBron James will do next offseason. It’s premature, but Carmelo is not exactly clarifying one way or another what his true intentions are. He could be on the move next offseason, and until he shoots it down he’ll hear questions about it all year.
