Denver Broncos Down a Pair of TEs after Joel Dressen Undergoes Knee Surgery
By Jason Marcum
The Denver Broncos have a wealth of receiving threats for quarterback Peyton Manning to throw to, but he’ll have one less target to throw to during the preseason and maybe longer. Starting tight end Joel Dreessen is done for the remainder of training camp after undergoing surgery on his left knee.
This comes after Dressen suffered a setback in his recovery from a June knee surgery. The latest procedure will be arthroscopic surgery to further clean up his left knee. He’s expected to miss the rest of training camp, as well as all four preseason games.
Fellow tight end Jacob Tamme is also on the sidelines, as he’s been dealing with a quadriceps injury that has kept him out of much of the last week of practices, and it’s unclear as to when he’ll be healthy enough to practice or play in live game-action. Dreessen and Jacob Tamme combined for 93 catches, 911 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
For the time being, Julius Thomas and Virgil Green will get most of the starters reps.
